Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick Review

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick | Shade 04 Peach Club

This blog post has been sitting in our draft page for almost two weeks now as I haven't had anytime to myself to take pictures and whatever time I have had has been spent finishing college work on my lying laptop. I thought I'd spend my first full free day trying out new products which have been in their original carrier bag for two weeks.

What they say- "Its soft, melting texture glides on to the lips and turns into a matt, velvety and incredibly light colour. Lips are left smooth and soft as velvet.
Enriched with evanescent oils, it’s incredibly sensuous formula provides a soft, second-skin feel, without drying or fading lips."

What I think- First of all, I have never really given 'liquid' lipsticks a second thought and the thought of them hasn't appealed to me at all. However, I stumbled upon some swatches of the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick's whilst other bloggers were receiving samples and something really drew my attention to them.  The application of these lipsticks are fool proof (if you don't apply too much) as the flocked tip applicator is slanted which will give you a quick and precise application. But I found the application to be a little tricky as I have always been a solid lipstick person, but with use it has become easier. They are long lasting and they don't leave marks on your skin when you touch you lips which I have found with a lot of matte lipsticks, and they also don't fade as quickly either. The finish of these lipsticks is matte, but they aren't drying in the slightest, in fact, they're kind of like how your lips would feel with a lip balm on. Personally as someone who touches their mouth a lot and tens to forget about recently applying lipstick whilst eating and drinking, I find that these lipsticks last a good 4-5 hours fully pigmented on my lips which is a lot less than what Bourjois have stated, but they then fade into a stain before you need to fill your lips back in with the lipstick after looking like you have left the house only wearing liner.

The colour range leans more towards red, but that is what rouge means in French... but there are hints of fuchsia and purple in a couple of their shades. 04-Peach Club is described as a discreet pale orange tone, perfect for the sixties look, but I have found it to be more on the red side as to being an orange or a peach shade. I really like this product and I can't wait to get my hands on shades 01, 02 and 07 from this collection, and I hope that Bourjois branch out from the rouge and bring out other shades/ colours of their liquid velvet lipsticks.

Favourite Spring/Summer Nail Polishs

Here are a few of my favourite colours for Summer/Spring this year up to now. I am crazy for nail polishes and I think that these 5 nail colours are standouts this S/S as they make you feel like summer is just around the corner and they are fun and colourful.

Much love,

Benefit's They're Real VS Maybelline The Rocket

Benefit's They're Real and Maybelline The Rocket are highly talked about in the blogging world, yet one is half the price even though they have similar expectations.

Boots expectations for Maybelline The Rocket Volume Express: "Clump free volume gets reinvented with our exclusive elastomer brush -the Jet-Glide. Lashes have up to 8 x more volume and the patented Jet-Glide Brush propels smooth volume evenly all the way up every lash in a flash for explosive volume."
What they say about Benefit's They're Real: "The exclusive brush is specially designed to maximize the performance of the long-wearing, glossy formula-revealing lashes you never knew you had! Staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length & volume beyond belief. The precision bristles on the custom-domed tip lift, define & curl even your tiniest lashes. The end result...luxurious, silky lashes that won't smudge, clump or dry out."

The bristles on The Rocket are much shorter than the ones on the They're Real brush which also has bristles on the tip which makes it easier to work with to get the look that you want and it also gives more length. They're Real gives more length and both of the textures are similar and easy to work with being clump free, however I personally prefer The Rocket as it gives more of a natural look whilst giving your lashes length and volume and it doesn't leave black marks under my lower lashes like most mascaras (including They're Real) do, but it tends to go limp after around the 6 hour mark.

Benefit's They're Real is best for those people who prefer long (slightly spidery) lashes or best kept for occasions where you want a little something extra. Maybelline's The Rocket gives the same illusion without the extra volume and the extra 1 millimetre added length which is perfect for when you want to doll-up for casual days.

Spring's Most Wanted

Untitled #2

1. Yankee Candle - Under The Palms, (£16.99)
I really like fresh candles during all seasons of the year, and this one from Yankee Candle has that fresh citrus fruit scent with a hint of coconut, making it (for me) more seasoned to summer than other 'fresh' scented candles, and it makes me imagine sitting on the beach of a tropical island with a clear blue sea.

2. ASOS Masterpiece T-Bar Shoes, (£50)
I've previously wanted both the Topshop Katz shoes, and the Primark look-alikes, but these shoes from ASOS are sturdier, and they will also make any outfit from skirts to jeans of any colour look a little more put together.

3. New Look Short Sleeve Lace Boxy Shirt, (£19.99)
I've been looking at short sleeved cropped shirts since last year but I never had the courage to purchase one as I feel like I have broad shoulders. However, I can imagine myself wearing this lace one with a denim A-line skirt, shorts, or a pencil skirt in summer.

4. Topshop TIKA2 High Vamp Skaters, (£20)
These slip-ons seem cheap looking online, but when I came across them in store I wasn't sure if they were the same pair. Skater shoes have been 'in' for the past two seasons, and it's probably the only trend which I would willingly follow. They could be paired with anything from a pair of summer shorts to a pair of black toothpick trousers for a classic look.

5. MAC Vintage Selection Paint Pot (£15)
If I'm going to wear eye shadow, it probably isn't going to be an over the top shimmer, but this paint pot by mac is described as a frosted dirty peach which is also seems like the perfect champagne colour which most skintones can wipe on and build up.

6. Barry M Rose Hip (£3.99)
Barry M have recently joined the trend of pastel nails and have added them into the perfect category... their Gelly Hi-Shine collection. Rose Hip is a pale strawberry pink colour, the three of the new spring colours and similar to the Models Own Scented Pastels which came out last year, but hopefully, with the repetition and quality of the gelly collection, these nail polishes will be fully opaque, long lasting and great quality.

7. ASOS A-Line Denim Skirt in Blue (£20)
I'm not usually interested in darker denim at all, but for some reason it's what I've been liking these past few weeks. I've been looking for a denim A-line skirt for a while now, and this one from ASOS is the perfect one for me, I wish they did it in black denim too.

8. MAC Creamsheen Lipstick in Fanfare (£15)
A dirty peach shade which adds a buildable opaque peach toned pink to your lips on summer

9. Pez O'Dor Mesh Swimsuit in Black (£38.00)
In all my years, I don't think I've ever worn a swimming costume with the lanky body proportion that I had as a child. This one from Urban Outfitters doesn't seem like the type of swimsuit that you would be seen in like the way of a red one, but in a way it seems chic in its own way.

10. Miss Dior Eau de Toilette (50ml)
What Boots says "Romantic by nature, Miss Dior inspires an intense and playful love, for which she is also searching. She personifies the spontaneous joie de vivre of today's young women, representing a particular type of freedom and seduction. It glides from the sharp charm of a fresh, fruity, citrus prelude into blossoming floral notes, then on to the noble elegance of patchouli, before finally concluding with musk."  I don't usually like floral scents, in fact, the first time I tried Daisy I thought it was for the more 'mature' woman.... but Miss Dior is the perfect blend of floral and fruit- ideal for young women.

11. Urban Decay Naked 2
I never usually wear eye shadow, and I keep eye make up neutral on special occasions. This palette from Urban Decay suits my needs whilst still giving me the option to try something new.

12. Topshop Blue Vintage Jamie Jeans (£40)
Jamie jeans are my favourite Topshop jeans as they are they perfect thickness for me- not being thin like jeggings, but not made from a stiff type of thick denim. They usually come up to my bellybutton or higher, and I think this colour is still acceptable for the change from Winter to Spring.
